Wednesday, 13 April 2011

It is Wednesday 13th April. We are well underway with the new tax year. However before we can really get going we have to tidy up the old year by completing accounts, tax returns and P35's. It is so much better for everyone if these are submitted earlier rather than later. It is of no benefit to a business sorting out the past and missing the now and leaving no time for planning the future.
After the epic Gobi challenge of last year, I am taking a breather this year and planning for next year. Every other year seems to be a good time gap between events as it gives me time to savour the event, recover prepare and look forward to the next one.
Any ideas for a challenge are always welcome.

Almost ready

Well its mid way through June and on 30th I will be in the Gobi desert in Mongolia on the starting line for my marathon a day for 6 days race. Hopefully by then my pack will not feel so heavy and my bottles will not be swinging!!. I am nearly ready.. I am as fit as I can be..well put it this way..there is nothing I can do to improve it now..what is that saying.."if you can't go in trained..go in rested!!" I have all my kit and can just about fit it into my pack..I have to carry my sleeping bag, sleeping mat , first aid and wash kit and all my food for 6 days! I have been wearing my desert shoes complete with bright orange gaiters in my training in the Cotswold hills..yes I am that funny looking person wobbling accross the common!!
I am exceedingly grateful to the support of my office colleagues (without their firm support and back up my participation in this event would not be possible) and my wonderful clients and friends whose very generous donations will keep going and make all my blisters (and there will be many) worth while.

Happy Days

Its April 20th, all is well here in Malmesbury. It is lovely and sunny and no sign of volcanic ash but we are assured its up in the sky. How awful it is for people wanting to go on holiday and probably worse for those wishing to come home! What will be will be and I have a basic philosophy of refusing to get stressed or worry about matters that are beyond my control. I count my blessings for what I have and always end up with a glass brim full of optimism.
I am hoping to catch up with my son and was due to fly away on Sunday..if its not to be..there are always tax returns to be done!

Happy New Financial Year

Happy new year..well to us accountants it is the start of the new financial year and yes the setting up of the new software for filing 2010 tax returns.!!
I hope everyone had a Happy and peaceful Easter. I wobbled 40 miles in the mud and pouring rain but I am very happy to completed the event. I am now ready to start testing and training with the Kit for the Gobi Desert Challenge.
I believe with everything in life all has been done one step at a time. In my training I have slowly built up my speed and stamina so that I can run 40 miles and be able to get up the next day to set off again. Now I have to try all this carrying a pack and consider altitude and heat... well the pack is this weeks test...

A new event

April 2nd
Well its sometime since I blogged ..however I am now back and in training for The Gobi Desert which takes place in July.
Its raining as I write this..which is OK as I am supposed to rest today ready for the 40 mile mud bath tomorrow. Its further than I have dine for some time so I am treating it with a little trepidation. It is 5 years since I completed the Sahara and in that time I have turned 50 in fact I am 53 and whether I like it or not age does effect performance and training. Any injury takes longer to recover..and my joints really do not like the damp. However I do enjoy going out and wobbling..yes even my running has changed!!
I love the training and I do need a goal. The training clears my head and I think helps my performance as an accountant..
I have wonderful clients who I consider to be friends and whose encouragement and support I hold very dear to my heart. I am a very luck lady.

Rain rain go away

Just a quick update for you on our current progress. As you may know we are in training for our next event which is cycling the Iditarod Trail in Alaska. The weather has not been kind to us, but despite the rain we are out cycling, running or walking. We've improved our speed quite a bit through this combined training and are feeling quite confident at this stage.
This challenge is going to be the toughest we have faced so far. The Iditaord is 1100 miles through the alaskan wilderness, and we are expecting to take 30 days to complete it. With demands this high there is no chance we will underestimate it, and know we must continue to maintain or improve our current level.
Knowing we have the support of those around us, and that the money we raise will go to a good cause we are determined, and continue training come rain or shine!
